pets
The pets listed below have special needs because of one reason or another.  They need a special family who is willing to give them a chance at a good life.  HELP believes every animal is precious and needs a chance despite needing a "special" home.

All HELP cats are FeLV/FIV tested. They have received age appropriate vaccinations.  They have been dewormed and spayed/neutered.  We can tell you their good and bad habits.  We will tell you!  We are looking for a lifetime commitment to these cats so we look for a good match.  The adoption donation is $90.00 which includes all the above.

MayKat - This little doll baby was given a crummy hand in life.  At only 6 months old, she found herself in Animal Control and worse, she was diagnosed with Feline Leukemia and about to be killed.  We were contacted by a caring person to see if we would have room for MayKat to come to our shelter.  Unfortunately, we had just lost 2 kitties but fortunately for MayKat, that meant there was room for her.  She is such a pleasure to be around, so fun and loving.  Even though she wont get to live a real long life, she still deserves to live it.  If you have no other cats and would consider giving MayKat a chance, you wouldn't be disappointed.  Or maybe you have a special kitty with Feline Leukemia that would love to have a friend, please consider MayKat.   MayKat, girl, born approx 8/07

Dear sweet soul Jackson, anyone who meets him falls in love with him.  Jackson was taken from a hoarder.  A hoarder is one that has many, many cats and cannot provide proper care for them.  That is how Jackson lost his eye.  It was so diseased and causing him so much pain that we have the veterinarian remove it.  That changed him from a timid boy to one who seeks affection, ALOT!  Jackson does have a sinus issue and unfortunately makes him go into sneezing fits and snot goes flying......honestly, its not pretty but we know he just cant help it.  Jackson, affectionately known as One-Eyed Jack, boy, born approx 2001.

Handsome is just that!  What a gorgeous Russian Blue this boy is!  Someone moved out of their home and just left him to try and survive.  The neighbors fed him and took care of him as best they could until someone finally decided to get him neutered.  It was then that they found out that he had Feline Leukemia.  He doesnt get along with other cats and can be very aggressive, but what a love bug he is for people affection!  Of course, he wont get to live a long life but what a difference you could make in the life of a kitty that wont get to live a long time!  Handsome, boy, born approximately 2004 or 2005, Russian Blue

Blond boy is desperate for affection, he simply cannot get enough.  He will grab your hand if you stop petting him and draw it back to him.  He gets along with most other cats, but it seems that if another cat provokes him, he gets upset and goes into a fighting mode.  He was diagnosed with Feline Leukemia about 3 yrs ago but is still healthy as a horse, FeLV+ cats just need to be monitored for any health concerns.  Of course, he wont get to live a long life but what a difference you could make in the life of a kitty that wont get to live a long time!  Blond Boy, boy, born approximately 2002 or 2003.

Brando is the cutest big fat cheeks boy you could imagine!  He is super talkative and affectionate.   He gets along great with any other cats and loves all sorts of people.  His tail had to be partially amputated because of an injury, so big cheeks and short tail are part of this wonderful companion package!  Brando has FIV, so he would need to be indoor only.  Brando, boy, born approximately 2004 or 2005.

Chamilia believes she is a Princess and should be treated as such, well, what can you say, she does look like one!  Chamilia is front paw declawed and it doesnt appear that she is crazy about other cats, so an "only" princess is called for.  Chamilia, girl, born approximately 2004 or 2005, Front declawed

Saffron's the name, "where's the food bowls" the game!  This gorgeous boy came to the shelter in a trap.  He was trapped in a neighborhood scavenging for food, how sad is that?  He was very frightened when he got to the shelter and would freeze in the back of his cage, hoping no one would notice him.  We assured him that he was safe now and he could relax and exhale.  It took us a while to convince him of that but wow, now he is relaxed!  Enough so that he enjoys a good belly rub!  Saffron has tested positive for Feline Leukemia, which means he wont live a normal life of 20 yrs but that doesnt mean he should die now.  We believe he should be able to live his life for however long that is.  We hope that someone else will feel like we do and give this guy the family he deserves!  Saffron, boy, born approximately 2003.

If you look closely you will see that this little boy's ear is straight on the left one.  That's his "badge of courage", but technically called an eartip.  When feral cats are TNRd (trapped/neutered and returned), they get the badge of courage so they are not trapped and taken to the vet again.  Unfortunately, Thyme was not able to be released back to his home because the neighbors were not being kind to animals.  So, Thyme is timid of people but he is a GREAT friend to other cats, he LOVES them.  And he is getting used to people but would need a patient family to help him trust.  If you are looking for a buddy for your kitty but dont really have extra lap time, Thyme would be GREAT in filling that request!  Thyme - boy - born approximately 6/06..
Poor baby Skyler, he has a food alergy and has to be on a special diet of non allergenic food.  He eats the food well but it means he has to stay in a cage because the food cannot be fed to all the residents.  He wails to get out of the cage but then eats the others food and starts itching which causes the raw spots.  He is great with other cats and is very social and still just a kitten.  Skyler was born approximately 5/06 and really needs a place to romp and stomp and only have access to his special food.  We know there is someone out there that will give him what he needs.....is it you?

Yeah, I gave 'em hell, sure did, but I got it back too!  So, if Gibson's face looks funny, it's because of the wounds he suffered in a fight before he was rescued and sent to a local veterinarian.  They fixed up his wounds (and pride) and now he is neutered and ready to go to his new home.  He is a flame point Himilayan mix.  He is very animated and affection.  He adores people, he cries for attention, oh and he will tell you if his box needs scooping.....he doesnt like that stuff sitting around, yuk!  Gibson, boy, born approx 2002.

Meet Jordan!  You cant see well in this picture but this boy has deep blue eyes and he is not deaf!  Alot of white cats with blue eyes are.  Jordan was found with many other cats in a trailer park.  He had blood and pus all over his head.  We had NO idea what was wrong with him but he was immediately taken to the vet where they determined that he simply had such a bad case of earmites that he had literally scratched himself bloody and infection was setting in.  He is very healthy now except that he has tested positive for FIV.  All that means is he needs to be an indoor kitty (all kitties should be anyway) and needs to be an only kitty or live with other FIV+.  This guy is the purrfect lap cat/couch potato.  He gets along great with other cats and would love nothing more then to be your buddy lap cat.  He is so laid back and never tears things up or causes trouble.  Wont you give this big boy the chance he deserves?

Columbo is a gorgeous boy with unique patterns in his coat.  He was trapped in a neighborhood that was working on TNRing feral cats, but Columbo is not feral, so he joined us at the shelter.  He is a little nervous, so he wouldnt do well with small children.  He is great with other cats but he has tested positive for Feline Leukemia, so he could only be with other cats that have the same disease or you could adopt 2 from us!  He has a limp on his hind leg from an injury that healed before it could be set straight, sometimes he favors it alot but other times you can hardly tell.  Columbo, boy, born approx 2005.

Sunni is a gorgeous Russian Blue........ when he was a tiny baby, he had horrible bloated stomach problems.  It was determined that he had Mega Colon.  After an extensive surgery to fix it, he actually had problems with the stool leaking.  That is much better now but the vet just doesnt know a long term prognosis on a cat this young with this type of surgery.....its usually done on older cats.  Sunni is AWESOME with other cats, he shows the newbies around and makes them feel comfortable.  He loves people and affection.  We hope he finds his special family!

Phoenix is such a couch potato, so if you are looking for someone to share the couch and a movie, here's your boy.  You cant see in this picture but he is a classic tabby with swirls and bulleyes in the pattern.  He sure hopes that someone comes soon to give him his family, he really needs some couch time!  Phoenix, boy, born approx 2004.

Cotton is very animated and comical.  You cant help but notice him, and if he thinks that you dont, he will take care of that.  He is very affectionate and playful at the same time.  And as you can see, quite the handsome strapping boy!  Cotton's time was up at a nearby shelter but the ACO had fallen in love with this guy, so she asked for him to be transferred to us.  Luckily, we had the room at the time.  So, now we need to fulfill our promise to him of a family......is that you?  Cotton, boy, born approx 2004.

Alamo is a real love bug!  He is a tad bit battle scarred but not a lot.  He is happy to be inside and warm and snuggly but he is missing one thing, his person's lap!  Please give him the chance at a family that he deserves, he wont ask for much!  Alamo does have FIV but that just means he needs to be an indoor only cat (and they all should be) and that he might not fight off a cold as easily as a cat without FIV, but antibiotics helps!  Look at that FACE!  How could you resist such a sweet plea!!?
Ellis is a young Snoeshow boy that has a gentle spirit.  He honestly lives to be loved.  He loves to get as CLOSE as possible to his person.  That includes your face, so if you like a kitty that you can REALLY snuggle with, Ellis is a good choice.  When he knows I am about to sit down, we have a race to the chair because he just cant wait to get on a lap.  He has been through tough times, we know this because of the condition he was rescued in.  He has deep blue eyes that he holds looking down.  Ellis does have FIV but thats not a death sentence for an indoor kitty.  They can live just as long as those that dont have it.  He just needs a chance, can you give him one?

When I was rescued, I had hurt my tail. The vet said he was unable to save it and it had to be amputated. Then I had a little bobtail that everyone said was so cute. I used to wag it up and down. But because I have FIV, it never healed and was always sore and hurting me. The vet finally had to remove my tail completely, so now I look like that Manx cat that lives here, only he is my foster mom’s real cat, not just a foster cat like me. I wish I were someone’s real cat.

There were complications from having so much surgery and it affected my vision. It is hard for me to judge distance and depth. My foster mom had to elevate my water bowl, otherwise I dig the water out onto the floor because I can’t tell where the level is. The elevated bowl helps me with that problem.

I share a room with other FIV cats in my foster home. I am a very good boy and I never jump up on the counter. I am the first one to greet my foster mom when she comes in to visit and take care of us. The other cats sometimes pick on me, so I would really like to have a home all to myself.

My name is Gus and I am about four years old.

My name is Snow White (supposed to be a pun)  I am approximately 4 yrs old and I am Shasta's sister.  I also need time to trust you but will trust sooner than Shasta.  I have LOADS of love to give to that special family that will give me the chance I deserve, you will not be sorry.
Newman is a doll!  He will roll around and talk away to get everyone's attention.  He immediately gives up his belly for a good ole rub!  Newman was abandoned by his family to fend for himself and he ended up in a feral colony where they were given food/water on a daily basis.  Newman is very talkative and would love someone to mull over their day with.....course this would mean that you would have to appreciate feedback, because he gives it whether you want it or not!  Newman, boy, born approx 2004

Im Shasta. Im a spunky, adorable 4 yr old cat. From a distance I look like Im black, but if you look real close, you can see I have stripes! I was rescued from the streets at about 7 wks old so I was undersocialized.  I love my foster mom because she gave me time to trust her.  She calls my name from wherever she is and it is like I am on the "Price is Right" and my name has been called.  I come running and then she pats her chest and I jump all the way up and she catches me.  I will love you just as much if you give me the patience I need to trust you.

Charlotte is very shy, it took her foster mom 3 weeks before she would not hide when she came into her room BUT it was worth the wait.  She is very sweet and loving.  She likes to sit on your lap and purrs loudly.  She is long-haired and about 6 years old.

Camelot is a 6 year old male flame point Siamese mix.  At 14 pounds you would think he would be afraid of nothing.  Wrong!  He is afraid of his own shadow.  He will need to find a home that has no children.  He will also need someone who will understand that he will not be an instant lap cat.  But with patience you will be greatly rewarded as this is a great cat.  He is very amusing.  No "grace of a cat".
