Special Needs Pets
The pets listed below have special needs because of one reason or another.  They need a special family who is willing to give them a chance at a good life.  HELP believes every life is precious and needs a chance despite needing a "special" home.

The adoption fee is also "special" according to what animal it is, so note the animal's name and call us or email for the adoption fee for that animal.

Rudolph was named after the reindeer because he was found peering in our shelter door on Christmas Eve 2009.  He was terribly sick and desperately needed some TLC, which we were happy to provide.  Rudolph tested positive for FIV, but please don’t let that stop you for adopting this horribly sweet deserving guy if you have no other cats.  HELP will provide all his medical care for his lifetime if you will give him the family he so deserves!  Rudolph, boy, born approx 2005

Now this boy is extra special and needs an extra special family.  Strider has limited use of his back end, although he has made many strides since he was first rescued, so the chances of him regaining full use are still there.  He moves around purrfectly and even gets in and out of his litter box, sometimes he falls a bit short, but this boy is full of character and spirit.  He is extremely entertaining and loves attention and affection.  He really doesn’t need a lot of “special” care except no steps and cleaning up of any accidents and boy will you be adopting a special boy!!   DECLAWED  Strider, boy, born approx 2005

Hope is just that, her rescuers hoped they would catch her before it was too late, they hoped she would recover and now we are hoping she gets a good family.  A frantic email came in about a cat that had her back sliced open and needed rescue.  Her foster parents ran out and got her within hours.  Although very scared of people, her foster parents tending to her medical needs for weeks.  During that time, Hope learned that people were pretty nice to be around.  She is awesome with other cats, probably wouldnt do well with children because she is just a little jumpy.  Her tail is basically in a knot from her injuries but the vet says she is just fine.  Look at that adorable face!  Can you resist?  Hope, girl, born approx 2007.

Jared is a purebred Abyssinian rescued from a breeder who had made an appt for his death because he had contracted the Feline Leukemia virus because of carelessness by that breeder.  Jared has issues with his eyes and has limited vision but his spirit is very much intact.  This boy is such a character, he will do all sorts of tricks for attention.  He plays like no one’s business.  He doesn’t realize he is sick and besides his eyes, you can’t tell either.  HELP will cover all his medical expenses for his lifetime, if you will just give him  the chance he deserves, he deserves his own family, Jared, boy, born approx 1/09

Dutch has had a rough time of it, he lost his indoor home and then was injured outside.  When the owners brought him into the vet clinic, his eye was ruptured and had to be removed.  He was also a matted mess and had to be shaved down from all that gorgeous Persian hair.  It was at that time that the family found out that he has the FIV virus, so he was turned over to HELP to find him an indoor home.  This boy is SO full of character you just cant believe it without seeing it.  Dutch's vet care will be provided for his lifetime by HELP if you can give him the indoor home he deserves.  Dutch, boy, Persian, born approx 2004.

We are not really sure of Tom Tom's age but he had been living as a neighborhood cat for a few years but suddenly started losing weight and having horrible stools, so he was brought into the shelter to get healthy.  He still has some intestinal issues but he is fattening up just fine!  He is a super sweet boy and just needs somewhere to unpack his bags.  Tom Tom does have the FIV virus but his vet care will be paid for by HELP for his lifetime if you can give him the family he deserves.  Tom Tom, boy, born approx 2004.

Lila is one of the sweetest kitties at the shelter.  She is so affectionate and loves attention and to get affection herself.  She cries for attention all the time and its just the sweetest cry you could imagine.  Lila is on a special food because her digestive system is out of whack and if given regular food, she will vomit it up.  HELP will pay for her food for her lifetime if you will give this darling little girl the chance she deserves.  She is also front paw declawed.  Lila, girl, born approx 2006.

This is such a sweet guy, he showed up at a volunteers home looking sadly through the door for a bit of food.  He scarfed it down like he hadnt been fed in quite some time.  After showing up a couple times this way, the volunteer took him in to get neutered and vaccinated.  We then found out that he has the Feline Leukemia virus.  He is now living at the shelter and hoping for the special family he deserves.  Lavry, boy, born approx 2005.

Dear sweet soul Jackson, anyone who meets him falls in love with him.  Jackson was taken from a hoarder.  A hoarder is one that has many, many cats and cannot provide proper care for them.  That is how Jackson lost his eye.  It was so diseased and causing him so much pain that we have the veterinarian remove it.  That changed him from a timid boy to one who seeks affection, ALOT!  Jackson does have a sinus issue and unfortunately makes him go into sneezing fits and snot goes flying......honestly, its not pretty but we know he just cant help it.  Jackson, affectionately known as One-Eyed Jack, boy, born approx 2001.

Handsome is just that!  What a gorgeous Russian Blue this boy is!  Someone moved out of their home and just left him to try and survive.  The neighbors fed him and took care of him as best they could until someone finally decided to get him neutered.  It was then that they found out that he had Feline Leukemia.  He doesnt get along with other cats and can be very aggressive, but what a love bug he is for people affection!  Of course, he wont get to live a long life but what a difference you could make in the life of a kitty that wont get to live a long time!  Handsome, boy, born approximately 2004 or 2005, Russian Blue

Blond boy is desperate for affection, he simply cannot get enough.  He will grab your hand if you stop petting him and draw it back to him.  He gets along with most other cats, but it seems that if another cat provokes him, he gets upset and goes into a fighting mode.  He was diagnosed with Feline Leukemia about 3 yrs ago but is still healthy as a horse, FeLV+ cats just need to be monitored for any health concerns.  Of course, he wont get to live a long life but what a difference you could make in the life of a kitty that wont get to live a long time!  Blond Boy, boy, born approximately 2002 or 2003.

Brando is the cutest big fat cheeks boy you could imagine!  He is super talkative and affectionate.   He gets along great with any other cats and loves all sorts of people.  His tail had to be partially amputated because of an injury, so big cheeks and short tail are part of this wonderful companion package!  Brando has FIV, so he would need to be indoor only.  Brando, boy, born approximately 2004 or 2005.

Chamilia believes she is a Princess and should be treated as such, well, what can you say, she does look like one!  Chamilia is front paw declawed and it doesnt appear that she is crazy about other cats, so an "only" princess is called for.  Chamilia, girl, born approximately 2004 or 2005, Front declawed

MayKat - This little doll baby was given a crummy hand in life.  At only 6 months old, she found herself in Animal Control and worse, she was diagnosed with Feline Leukemia and about to be killed.  We were contacted by a caring person to see if we would have room for MayKat to come to our shelter.  Unfortunately, we had just lost 2 kitties but fortunately for MayKat, that meant there was room for her.  She is such a pleasure to be around, so fun and loving.  Even though she wont get to live a real long life, she still deserves to live it.  If you have no other cats and would consider giving MayKat a chance, you wouldn't be disappointed.  Or maybe you have a special kitty with Feline Leukemia that would love to have a friend, please consider MayKat.   MayKat, girl, born approx 8/07

If you look closely you will see that this little boy's ear is straight on the left one.  That's his "badge of courage", but technically called an eartip.  When feral cats are TNRd (trapped/neutered and returned), they get the badge of courage so they are not trapped and taken to the vet again.  Unfortunately, Thyme was not able to be released back to his home because the neighbors were not being kind to animals.  So, Thyme is timid of people but he is a GREAT friend to other cats, he LOVES them.  And he is getting used to people but would need a patient family to help him trust.  If you are looking for a buddy for your kitty but dont really have extra lap time, Thyme would be GREAT in filling that request!  Thyme - boy - born approximately 6/06..
Newman is a doll!  He will roll around and talk away to get everyone's attention.  He immediately gives up his belly for a good ole rub!  Newman was abandoned by his family to fend for himself and he ended up in a feral colony where they were given food/water on a daily basis.  Newman is very talkative and would love someone to mull over their day with.....course this would mean that you would have to appreciate feedback, because he gives it whether you want it or not!  Newman, boy, born approx 2004

Yeah, I gave 'em hell, sure did, but I got it back too!  So, if Gibson's face looks funny, it's because of the wounds he suffered in a fight before he was rescued and sent to a local veterinarian.  They fixed up his wounds (and pride) and now he is neutered and ready to go to his new home.  He is a flame point Himilayan mix.  He is very animated and affection.  He adores people, he cries for attention, oh and he will tell you if his box needs scooping.....he doesnt like that stuff sitting around, yuk!  Gibson, boy, born approx 2002.

Meet Jordan!  You cant see well in this picture but this boy has deep blue eyes and he is not deaf!  Alot of white cats with blue eyes are.  Jordan was found with many other cats in a trailer park.  He had blood and pus all over his head.  We had NO idea what was wrong with him but he was immediately taken to the vet where they determined that he simply had such a bad case of earmites that he had literally scratched himself bloody and infection was setting in.  He is very healthy now except that he has tested positive for FIV.  All that means is he needs to be an indoor kitty (all kitties should be anyway) and needs to be an only kitty or live with other FIV+.  This guy is the purrfect lap cat/couch potato.  He gets along great with other cats and would love nothing more then to be your buddy lap cat.  He is so laid back and never tears things up or causes trouble.  Wont you give this big boy the chance he deserves?

Columbo is a gorgeous boy with unique patterns in his coat.  He was trapped in a neighborhood that was working on TNRing feral cats, but Columbo is not feral, so he joined us at the shelter.  He is a little nervous, so he wouldnt do well with small children.  He is great with other cats but he has tested positive for Feline Leukemia, so he could only be with other cats that have the same disease or you could adopt 2 from us!  He has a limp on his hind leg from an injury that healed before it could be set straight, sometimes he favors it alot but other times you can hardly tell.  Columbo, boy, born approx 2005.

Sunni is a gorgeous Russian Blue........ when he was a tiny baby, he had horrible bloated stomach problems.  It was determined that he had Mega Colon.  After an extensive surgery to fix it, he actually had problems with the stool leaking.  That is much better now but the vet just doesnt know a long term prognosis on a cat this young with this type of surgery.....its usually done on older cats.  Sunni is AWESOME with other cats, he shows the newbies around and makes them feel comfortable.  He loves people and affection.  We hope he finds his special family!

Phoenix is such a couch potato, so if you are looking for someone to share the couch and a movie, here's your boy.  You cant see in this picture but he is a classic tabby with swirls and bulleyes in the pattern.  He sure hopes that someone comes soon to give him his family, he really needs some couch time!  Phoenix, boy, born approx 2004.

Cotton is very animated and comical.  You cant help but notice him, and if he thinks that you dont, he will take care of that.  He is very affectionate and playful at the same time.  And as you can see, quite the handsome strapping boy!  Cotton's time was up at a nearby shelter but the ACO had fallen in love with this guy, so she asked for him to be transferred to us.  Luckily, we had the room at the time.  So, now we need to fulfill our promise to him of a family......is that you?  Cotton, boy, born approx 2004.

Alamo is a real love bug!  He is a tad bit battle scarred but not a lot.  He is happy to be inside and warm and snuggly but he is missing one thing, his person's lap!  Please give him the chance at a family that he deserves, he wont ask for much!  Alamo does have FIV but that just means he needs to be an indoor only cat (and they all should be) and that he might not fight off a cold as easily as a cat without FIV, but antibiotics helps!  Look at that FACE!  How could you resist such a sweet plea!!?
Ellis is a young Snoeshow boy that has a gentle spirit.  He honestly lives to be loved.  He loves to get as CLOSE as possible to his person.  That includes your face, so if you like a kitty that you can REALLY snuggle with, Ellis is a good choice.  When he knows I am about to sit down, we have a race to the chair because he just cant wait to get on a lap.  He has been through tough times, we know this because of the condition he was rescued in.  He has deep blue eyes that he holds looking down.  Ellis does have FIV but thats not a death sentence for an indoor kitty.  They can live just as long as those that dont have it.  He just needs a chance, can you give him one?

Charlotte is very shy, it took her foster mom 3 weeks before she would not hide when she came into her room BUT it was worth the wait.  She is very sweet and loving.  She likes to sit on your lap and purrs loudly.  She is long-haired and about 6 years old.

My name is Snow White (supposed to be a pun)  I am approximately 4 yrs old and I am Shasta's sister.  I also need time to trust you but will trust sooner than Shasta.  I have LOADS of love to give to that special family that will give me the chance I deserve, you will not be sorry.

Im Shasta. Im a spunky, adorable 4 yr old cat. From a distance I look like Im black, but if you look real close, you can see I have stripes! I was rescued from the streets at about 7 wks old so I was undersocialized.  I love my foster mom because she gave me time to trust her.  She calls my name from wherever she is and it is like I am on the "Price is Right" and my name has been called.  I come running and then she pats her chest and I jump all the way up and she catches me.  I will love you just as much if you give me the patience I need to trust you.
